P&C Day

NSW P&Cs are vital to successful school communities. In anticipation of the third annual P&C Day the Federation would like to acknowledge the many thousands of volunteers who have been involved, or are still involved in their P&C. We invite you to share your positive and memorable experiences as we reflect on the incredible social capital that P&Cs and volunteers contribute to our society.
This will be the first year our school Cambridge Gardens Public School will celebrate P & C Day. I am excited and feel that maybe posters and / or a newsletter extract could help promote this important day. We are having a planning day on 4/2/09 where we will be setting a goal and a plan of how the P & C can achieve that goal over the year. The P & C day will be apart of that plan. I feel that people miss understand what a P & C Association is all about. We are hoping to bring our school and community closer together this year. EXCITING STUFF!!!!

Would love a calendar which shows events and dates for each term to help plan the years events. The journal had this last year but I am wondering if I can have it earlier to help plan our year by term this will ensure important dates and events are not missed.

Our P&C is proud to be a true partner in our children's education. This P&C Day we are going to put our feet up and celebrate the hard work - particularly the barbeques and the cold night meetings! - with a cake. All P&C Associations should remind themselves how special they are.

We are celebrating with an hour gathering in our school hall. The P & C President will be addressing our community along with special guest; John Hill from Penrith Community Kitchen and David Bradbury MP. We have refreshments; face painting for toddlers and uniforms on sale. Job well done, round of applause for all the volunteers at Cambridge Garedns Public School!

Hello to all concerned,

As a mum and dad at Double Bay Public School we would like to support the UN's World Kindness Week through our school's major fundraiser with an event not to be missed on the 15th of November this year. We are not on the executive, however would like an opportunity to be invited to attend the Annual Conference and place this as an initiative on the agenda for all schools to consider.

Our school has "celebrated" Kindness and Courtesy since 1883 and this year with recent "You Tube clips of behaviour unbecoming school girls" and websites that promote cyber bullying, we have suggested to our P&C that we should celebrate our Motto and theme the event around "Kindness & Courtesy." (Bear in mind Pittwater Public was Kindness & Courage)

We are looking for your feedback on our site before it is promoted and goes live. We ask for you to review the content, the message and go to the feedback link with your thoughts. We want to get it right and get a feel if this is the message we need to be sending from our children or an event you would either attend, sponsor or support.

We anticipate anywhere from 2000 upwards to attend and we will be sourcing help to put the event on in Steyne Park opposite the school on Sydney Harbour. If we are not successful at the P&C meeting on the 1st of July and it is not passed by our own school to have the fete celebrate a theme based on kindness, then perhaps another separate event could be supported by clusters of schools who may feel this is something they may like to support and perhaps coordinate it nationally.

For this to succeed we need to first convince the Double Bay's 600 parents and it's P&C that this theme is worthwhile and worth the investment. Your feed back will help give an indication as to whether we make that extra effort and commit to giving it a purpose other than a just having a School fete. It is not a inexpensive exercise and considerable money would need to be raised to cover costs for stall, rides, entertainment, staging, street, performers and advertising. Indications from potential sponsors so far this initiative would be well received.

If your a you can help, our intention is to get your feed back so that we may be able to demonstrate it is worthwhile. Apart from a fundraiser for the school we would like to nominate and represent charities to support and make it an annual event perhaps involving all schools. It's a promotion that needs help with all aspects and something that could begin to heal the core of our social issues of today for tomorrow through the children.
Lets re discover "Our Will to Give"

All we ask is go to the link have a look and let us know. Please do not hesitate to email or call me direct if you would like to be involved or know someone who could make that difference. It would be great to be able to table your support as an indication that there is potential to change.

I was involved with the Canteen committee of our public school, assisting with wonderful changes to healthy foods available for students. Unfortunately a change of executive committee has voided all of the good work done. Why aren't school paid a visit by someone to make sure all of the previous work is not done in vain?

There has been a long running discussion about the development of 'League Tables'. School results in national literacy and numeracy assessment may be used in ranking school performance.
There is a concern that schools will spend valuable teaching time, preparing students for the assessment rather than extending their learning opportunities. Do we want to see schools labelled as failures because of their results?
Parents are already provided with information about their child through school reports, parent interviews, NAPLAN and BST results. Will the ranking provide any more details about our children or will it focus on the schools while ignoring the needs of the children who learn in that environment?

I agree with you Helen. I worry that my kids will be taught to the test in some vain attempt to improve school putcomes.. I love tthat currently my school is student focused and they look at the whole child.. my children will not benefit from a league table i want a school where all who are there are encouraged and Valued , some of the schools that my kids have been to would surely fall into the failure ranks but my children learnt compassion caring and lasting friendships there and isnt that what it is about... nurturing the whole child.

All the Best for P&C Day themed "Try A Little Kindness" In light of the recent violence stabbings in our schools related to Bullying, it certainly is an appropriate theme.
I fully support the collaborative effort of both the P&C and DET celebrating and promoting a Kindness Campaign within our schools for World Kindness Week.
It is so encouraging looking back on past comments, (June 27th 09) and to see the P&C Federation action them. I support all parents to get involved. With that in mind, please forward your P&C’s initiative or School Kindness story to www.worldkindness.com.au where you can post it yourself. Who knows what you will inspire.
