Canteens
Canteens play a central role in the majority of public schools. They
provide nutritious and affordable food to students, raise valuable funds
for educational programs and are a fine example of parent participation.
P&C Federation actively supports canteens and commends the parents
who run them. Although most parent volunteers have no experience in
financial management or industrial law, most are capable of running
an efficient, profitable and well-managed canteen.
This manual provides important information about health and other legal

The wage rate schedule currently displayed relates to the Australian
Fair Pay commission's Minimum Wage Decision effective from 1 October
2007. P&C Associations that are incorporated may be deemed
a Constitutional Corporation in which case the Fair Pay Commission decision
applies.
The Australian Fair Pay Commission announced, on 5 July 2007, the outcome
of its second review of minimum wages for employees under the Workplace
Relations Act 1996 (WorkChoices). The decision provided for increases
to the Federal Minimum Wage and the Australian Pay and Classification
Scales.
There is no immediate pay increase. The increases set out in the decision
take effect from the first pay period on or after 1 October 2007.
Employers who are not constitutional corporations may be covered by a
State Award. State Awards may continue to be varied from time to time
by the New South Wales Industrial Relations Commission.
The rates and allowances set out below apply only to employers who are
not constitutional corporations.
