Shared reflection: what makes for positive engagement in your child’s education

P&C Federation NSW and the NSW Department of Education are co-hosting this webinar to hear what matters to parents and carers in their engagement with the Department for their child’s education.

During the webinar, the panel will:
• introduce the new Student and Parent Experience Directorate
• discuss early insights on what might enable positive outcomes through parent and carer engagement in their child’s education,
• demonstrate opportunities for parents, carers and staff to continue their contribution to the discussion on parent and carer engagement with their child’s education.

Throughout the webinar, the panel will be actively engaging participants through short polls and the webinar chat, to capture feedback and perspectives.

Natalie Walker

President, P&C Federation NSW

Natalie Walker is the Far West Councillor & elected President of NSW P&C Federation. For the past six and a half years, she has volunteered as a councillor to support students, parents and citizens involved in public education in NSW, as well as nine years as a member of her local P&C Associations, in the role as President, Vice President and Secretary. She resides in Forbes, Central West NSW, with her husband and two children who attend Forbes High School. She enjoys reading, music, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Natalie holds a Bachelor of Education (ECE), from Macquarie University and is currently undertaking the Women in Leadership Australia – Advanced Leadership Program. She also completed a Diploma in Business (Governance), Cert IV Training & Assessment and Advanced Diploma in Community Sector Management.

As a passionate advocate about public education, Natalie wants to ensure that all children and young people get the best start in life. As a product of the public education system, Natalie has experienced both rural and metropolitan public schools attending Tullamore Central School through primary and Fort St High School in Petersham, Sydney, a selective high school.

Natalie has supported public education through various Boards and educational committees with the NSW Department of Education and NESA, and has over 20 years’ experience in the community sector.

Her goal moving forward is to continue to strengthen the organisations foundations, allowing P&C Federation to continue to grow and step up to the next level of service delivery and advocacy for its members. Natalie would also like to see the organization and its members seen as a valuable partner and contributor to NSW public schools and looks forward to working with stakeholders to support children and young people in NSW public schools.

Estelle Marque

Director, Student and Parent Experience Directorate

Estelle Marque is a Director within the Department of Education’s Student and Parent Experience Directorate. Her experience spans over a range of government agencies, supporting them in delivering new services that optimise customer experience. She has a passion for embedding the voice of students, parents and carers in the design of policies and bringing people along the journey of making government organisations increasingly more customer-centric.

Ben Berriman

Acting Chief Education Officer, Student and Parent Experience Directorate

Ben Berriman is the Acting Chief Education Officer within the Department of Education’s Student and Parent Experience Directorate. He brings 22 years of school-based experience to this role, gained from working in a range of High School settings across Western Sydney. In both school-based, and corporate roles Ben actively seeks opportunities in incorporate student, parent/carer and community voice, in partnership with staff, in decision making and planning. He passionately believes in the practices of strengths based collaborative practice to enable teams to operate as highly effective and cohesive units, to the benefit of improving student educational, wellbeing, and life outcomes.

Susan Jeffery

Executive Director, Student and Parent Experience Directorate

Susan Jeffery joined the Department of Education in December as the Executive Director for the new Student and Parent Experience Directorate. She has more than 20 years’ experience spanning both Government and private sector, with deep expertise in building and managing customer experience functions. She has a passion for building the ability to more effectively hear and respond to the voices of our students and families to deliver enhanced and new experiences which ensure every child can reach their potential

Peter Buckmaster

Director, Digital Services

Peter is a digital specialist in strategy and service design delivering sustainable customer experiences for the NSW Department of Education with a background in retail, telco, finance industries and education.

He is currently the Director, Digital Design and Delivery within the Information Technology Directorate. The role includes delivering the “re-platforming and redevelop” of DoE websites onto a newly supported website publishing platform. This has also included delivery of a strategy, call the Global Experience Language, to achieve the velocity and speed needed to meet the short timeframes of website redevelopment. The DoE digital platform (website, intranet and portal) supports 1.8 million visits per month.
