Message from The CEO
4 months agoAs we arrive at the final stretch of the school year, there’s a particular kind of energy in the air. The finish line is visible, but we’re not there yet. This is the part of the race where grit matters. Where purpose matters. Where the “why” behind what we do becomes a powerful driver to keep showing up, even when the calendar feels full and the term feels long.
I’ve been thinking a lot about motivation lately, about what fuels us as parents, carers, volunteers, and advocates in public education. For many of you, the “why” lives in your school’s corridors and classrooms – the school musical you supported, the new equipment your P&C helped fund, the student whose opportunities are richer because your community said yes to pitching in. Those moments don’t just feel good, they shape young lives. They build belonging and pride in our public schools.
And let’s be honest, sometimes motivation also comes from the harder moments – from hitting a barrier and deciding you won’t accept it. From seeing inequality and choosing to challenge it. I know many of you have experienced that this year. It may sound counter-intuitive, but I often find obstacles galvanising. They remind me exactly why this work matters, and why we will never be passive bystanders in decisions affecting our students, our families, and our schools.
Not every part of our advocacy happens in the spotlight, and some of our biggest efforts are the ones not yet visible. But every conversation, every push for fairness, every time we insist on better for public schools, it counts. Momentum builds, and we are seeing shifts. Your voices, your experiences, your perseverance are forming the foundations of lasting change.
In four weeks’ time, many of us will be together at our conference, a chance to reconnect, recharge, and sharpen our collective purpose. Tickets are selling quickly, and I am genuinely looking forward to the conversations, the ideas, and the shared conviction that always emerges when our community comes together.
Between now and the end of term, I hope you find whatever keeps your fire burning – whether it’s pride in what you’ve already achieved, a new goal you want to achieve, or a challenge you’re determined to push through. Motivation isn’t always loud or dramatic, sometimes it’s simply the quiet decision to turn up again because you believe in something bigger than yourself.
Thank you for showing up, in whatever capacity you can, with whatever energy you have, and for helping create better futures for young people in NSW public schools.
See you at the finish line, and hopefully, at conference.
