Have Your Say! Working Together to Strengthen Consent Education

Students across the state, both past and present, have called for improved consent education. This follows a recent petition by former Sydney student Chanel Contos which led to thousands of young people sharing their stories of witnessing or experiencing sexual harassment, abuse and violence amongst young people.

Earlier this year, the heads of the three education sectors signed a Statement of Intent to strengthen consent education. The Statement recognises the role of parents and carers as the first and continuing educators of their children, and their importance in ensuring that students have the necessary knowledge and skills to form healthy, respectful relationships.

As part of this work, the NSW Department of Education and P&C Federation are collaborating to engage with parents and carers on this important issue.

Now, there is an opportunity to have your say by completing this short survey.

The survey is anonymous and will take less than 10 minutes to complete.

The findings will help the Department to understand the kinds of supports parents and carers would find useful in continuing important conversations with children and young people at home.

The results will be shared on NSW Department of Education website later this year.

For more information, including FAQs, please visit the Department’s webpage.

The Department wants to hear from all parents and carers of NSW public school students, across all communities.

Together, we can help our children and young people form strong, positive relationships and prevent harmful situations.

Complete the survey now.
