P&C Federation Meets with Deputy Premier to Advocate for Parents and Carers in NSW

Today, Yvonne Hilsz, President of the P&C Federation of NSW, and Gemma Quinn, CEO of the Federation, met with The Deputy Premier of NSW, The Hon. Prue Car MP, Minister for Education and Early Learning, at Parliament House. The meeting focused on the key issues that matter most to parents and carers across NSW, based on the Federation’s recent advocacy survey findings.

In light of the critical timing in our Full Funding campaign, with the looming deadline for submissions to the Better and Fairer Schools (Funding and Reform) Bill 2024, Ms Hilsz and Ms Quinn took the opportunity to discuss the matter with the Deputy Premier.

“The P&C Federation remains committed to the core issue of securing full funding for public schools,” Ms Hilsz said. “This message came through strongly in our survey, with 90% of respondents emphasising that full funding is essential for the success of public education.”

“On behalf of our community, I would like to extend our deepest thanks to the Deputy Premier for her unwavering commitment to the children in public education. You have stood with us as we call on the Federal Government to increase their financial contribution to ensure our public schools are funded to 100% of the SRS.”

We are also incredibly grateful to the parents of NSW for your ongoing support of the P&C Federation’s Full Funding campaign. Your advocacy helps to ensure that every public school is properly resourced, and that our children receive the high-quality education they deserve.

Thank you for standing with us in this important cause.

The Federation is currently preparing a submission to the Senate Education and Employment Legislation Committee as part of its inquiry into the Better and Fairer Schools (Funding and Reform) Bill 2024. This bill, referred to the committee on 10 October 2024, aims to address school funding and reforms to ensure a fairer education system. Submissions to the inquiry are due by 24 October 2024, with the committee set to report its findings by 18 November 2024.

The P&C Federation invites parents and carers to participate in the submission process, either by directly contributing to the inquiry or sharing your experience with the P&C Federation to strengthen our upcoming submission. “Your voice plays a vital role in shaping our advocacy,” Ms Hilsz added. “By sharing your thoughts, either formally or to us as your representatives, you help ensure the government understands the importance of full funding for the future of public education and the wellbeing of our students and communities.”

Ms Hilsz expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage with government representatives and represent the concerns of parents in NSW. “It is a privilege to represent your voice and work together for the future of public education,” she said. “Together, we are making a difference.”
